The Venice Film Festival, one of the oldest film festivals in the world, has been considered one of the most prestigious gatherings in cinema since 1932. Yorgos Lanthimos’ Bugonia masterfully combined dark humor and suspense, offering a distinct tone. Brought to life by the performances of Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons, the film was filled with scenes that both entertained and provoked thought. Lanthimos’ absurd atmosphere and unique character creation made Bugonia one of the most talked-about films throughout the festival.

Festival Highlights

The Best Director award went to Benny Safdie for The Smashing Machine. The film, which powerfully portrays the dramatic and human aspects of the sports world, left a lasting impression on audiences. Other standout films at the festival included Guillermo del Toro’s gothic adaptation Frankenstein and Olivier Assayas’ politically themed The Wizard of the Kremlin; both films deeply moved viewers with 10–13 minutes of standing ovations and became unforgettable moments of the festival.
