MINI JCW x Deus: The Dual Faces of Passion

The legendary spirit of motorsport meets the free rhythm of coastal living as MINI’s John Cooper Works series merges with the creative world of Deus Ex Machina. This collaboration, born from two distinct cultures, ultimately shares a single passion: speed, design, and originality. The MINI JCW x Deus Ex Machina project is not merely about two exclusive cars, but a vision that unites two different ways of life under one roof.

The Skeg: Freedom in Electric Form

This unique collaboration comes to life through two one-off John Cooper Works models. The first, named “The Skeg,” is an all-electric JCW that reflects the minimalism of surf culture and a closeness to nature. Its fiberglass panels reduce weight, while the vivid yellow and silver bodywork makes a striking first impression. A spoiler inspired by the aerodynamic form of a surfboard sets it apart from the ordinary. Inside, neoprene upholstery, fiberglass trays, and dedicated storage for surf gear amplify the feeling of a “mobile surf shop.” The Skeg unites the silent power of electric mobility with the freedom of coastal living.

The Machina: Raw Power Born from the Track

The other car takes to the stage with an entirely different energy: “The Machina.” This model highlights pure racing DNA through the striking interplay of red, white, and black. Additional rally-inspired headlights, a diffuser borrowed from racing machines, and a bold Can-Am–style rear spoiler underline its track-bred character. Inside, weight-reducing panels, five-point harnesses, and a hydraulic handbrake immerse the driver directly in the heart of the machine. With raw power and mechanical honesty, The Machina rekindles the thrill of the track through a modern design lens.

Racing Aesthetics, Then and Now

Both cars are united by the white ‘X’—a symbol of the collaborative spirit between the two brands. Visible seams, classic switches, and materials stripped of high-gloss finishes emphasize authenticity over perfection. It is an approach that celebrates craftsmanship and reveals the beauty of imperfection. The visual language of the project bears the signature of Deus Creative Director Carby Tuckwell and designer Matt Willey, blending historic motorsport aesthetics with contemporary graphic design. Together, they revive a story that stretches from MINI’s Monte Carlo Rally victories to the present day.

Passion Turned into Style

The MINI JCW x Deus Ex Machina collaboration extends far beyond cars. On September 8, 2025, at the IAA Mobility in Munich, a dedicated capsule apparel collection will debut as part of this shared vision. Crafted with premium materials and meticulous attention to detail, the pieces carry the energy of motorsport and Deus’ timeless sense of style into everyday wardrobes. At its core, the message is simple: whether chasing waves on the coast or pushing limits on the track, there exists a lifestyle where passion unites. Through two cars, a collection, and a global community, MINI and Deus bring this spirit vividly to life.
