RIMOWA x Vitra: The Spirit of Travel at Home

From time to time, the world of design witnesses collaborations that gracefully unite the heritage of the past with the needs of today. The RIMOWA x Vitra partnership tells exactly such a story. Coming from two distinct disciplines, yet connected by a shared passion for materials, aesthetic vision, and functionality, these two brands offer a unique collection for collectors and design enthusiasts alike.

Aluminum, Two Ways

German luggage master RIMOWA and Swiss modern design pioneer Vitra come together for the first time in a single collection. Aluminum — deeply rooted in the DNA of both brands — becomes both the material and the storyteller of this collaboration. The Aluminum Stool, featuring RIMOWA’s signature grooved aluminum shell and Multiwheel® mobility system familiar from its suitcases, transforms into a mobile living unit. Combining functionality with understated elegance, this design seamlessly adapts to the ever-changing rhythm of modern living spaces.

Signature Interpretations

On the other hand, the Aluminum Toolbox represents a fresh interpretation of Vitra’s iconic Toolbox model, originally designed by Arik Levy and introduced in 2010. This time, instead of recycled plastic, it is crafted from RIMOWA’s signature anodized aluminum. The interior lining, made of recycled fabric, once again highlights Vitra’s meticulous attention to detail.

In Pursuit of Shared Craftsmanship

This special collection reflects the craftsmanship of both brands not only in its aesthetics but also in its production process. The aluminum components are shaped at RIMOWA’s headquarters in Cologne, while the upholstery and textile applications are completed at Vitra’s legendary Vitra Campus in Weil am Rhein. Vitra’s Chief Design Officer, Christian Grosen Rasmussen, summarizes the collaboration as follows: "In order for us to collaborate with another brand, there needs to be common ground in terms of aesthetics and values. But at the same time, differences are essential — because it’s that spark that creates something new."

Limited Edition, Timeless Appeal

One of the most striking aspects of this elegant collection is its limited production numbers. The aluminum stool is limited to 1,000 pieces and priced at €2,200, while the aluminum toolbox is produced in just 100 units and offered at €550. The collection will launch on June 18, 2025, coinciding with Art Basel. It will be available exclusively on rimowa.com in Europe and at select flagship stores worldwide. Additionally, the collection will be celebrated with a special installation at the Vitra Campus, inside the Vitra Fire Station designed by Zaha Hadid.

This collaboration offers a poetic response to the pace of modern life, the evolving definition of travel, and the shifting boundaries of living spaces. The RIMOWA x Vitra collection is designed not merely as a set of products, but as objects that shape a way of living. The flawless balance between form and function once again highlights both brands’ distinguished positions in the world of design.
